New York students can not go to school because of a strike by bus drivers

A strike of school bus drivers, ended last week, has again gained momentum on Monday, leaving thousands of children without the possibility to go to school. The strike has affected students in the districts of Freeport, Baldwin, Hicksville and Rockville Centre, as well as students in Queens and Brooklyn.

Debra Hagan, President of the transport workers Union, said Sunday: «We talked with the residents of the areas and we realize that now the main problem of parents to deliver children to school and take them home. That is why the strike began early in the morning – the students did not have to stand alone at bus stops».

Authorities and representatives of the Union are in talks. The Union demands higher wages and larger contributions to the program 401K. The meeting scheduled for November 10.
