In the United States approved the first drug with an embedded microchip

The Department for control over products and medicines (FDA) has approved first in the United States a drug with a digital tracking system that records the fact of taking the pill.

A drug called Abilify MyCite contains pills aripiprazole with microchip sensor. The sensor transmits the message of the smartphone via a special application. Patients can also choose to allow the application access to their guardians, relatives or physicians.

As reported in the FDA drug approved for the treatment of schizophrenia, manic psychosis, bipolar disorder, and as adjunctive treatment of depression in adults.

«The ability to track the medications prescribed to treat mental illness, can be helpful for some patients,» said Mitchell Mathis, Director of the Department of psychiatric drugs Center evaluation and research of drugs by the FDA.

«FDA supports the development and use of new technologies and strives to work with companies to understand how these technologies can benefit patients,» added Mathis.

It is also noted that to rely on sensor data in emergencies, as it is activated in the process of digestion, and in this case, it may take some time or not happen at all.
