Americans will spend on Christmas the same as spending before the financial crisis

According to a survey conducted by Gallup in November, Americans plan to spend on Christmas gifts average $ 862 each, well above last year’s spending. Moreover, the same amount the Americans spend on preparing the feast for 10 years, since 2007, when there was a financial crisis.

In 2016, the holiday gifts have cost U.S. residents an average of about $ 752 each.

Lydia Saad, editor in chief of Gallup, says that the willingness of Americans to the great costs and early discount offers for the holiday season may be the «straw» for the failing retail chains.

If we talk about more specific numbers, then 34% of adult Americans intend to spend $1000 on Christmas gifts this year; 22% said that it will spend from $ 500 to $ 999; 15% said that their limit from $250 to $499; and 18% said they are willing to pay up to $250. 9% of Americans said that they did not intend to celebrate Christmas and to bear any expenses in connection with the celebration, 2% of the citizens have not yet decided on their plans.
