Workers from new York voluntarily went for thanksgiving in Puerto Rico to restore electricity

About 100 employees of power company of new York Con Edison will spend thanksgiving not with their families, and devastated by the hurricane Maria Puerto Rico.

They help local utilities to restore electricity on the island – re-stretching the wires, to raise the fallen power lines.

«I come from Jamaica, so I know what hurricanes and tropical storms,» says AMNY Orville Cocking, a resident of the Bronx and head of the team of workers in Puerto Rico. «I just felt that this is a great opportunity to help the people of Puerto Rico to return to a normal life.»

In addition, in the coming days on the island will arrive one United team of electricians out of 100 people – employees of Con Ed, Orange and Rockland Utilities. Their work will pay off, but those people volunteered on a trip to Puerto Rico for thanksgiving.

Local residents, most of whom are without electricity since September, support has arrived.

«People stop when they see us, and thank you,» says Orville Cocking. «It really gives me strength and inspires».
