In Indiana, the biological parents were able to adopt my adult daughter after she refused 39 years ago.
It’s not the bright a Christmas story, but it has a happy ending.
It began in 1970-ies, when the 18-year-old Marcy Katli met at a BBQ with 28-year-old handsome Roger Roth. They loved each other at first sight. Eight months later, after meeting Marcy found that she was pregnant.
She was hoping to marry her beloved, but long feared to tell him the truth, but as time went on. «The questions of the doctor sprinkled salt on the wound. How will you live? When’s the wedding? How do you expect to raise a child without education? He said that his friends really want to adopt a child,» recalls Marcy.
When she told Roger about the pregnancy, he cited dozens of reasons that could not be the father. «I hated myself for it, but from a song words not throw it away, it was,» says Roger now.
And then Marcy decided to give the baby up for adoption. As reported by The Indianapolis Star, the midwives didn’t say who was born at Marcy, but she refused to leave the hospital without seeing her child. She said that she needed to know that everything is in order.
A couple of months, on new years eve, a drunken Roger appeared in the apartment Marcie. He said he made a mistake, he wants to be with her and her daughter. But it was too late – the girl had already adopted. This has become an insurmountable obstacle in relations Marcie and Roger.
The years went by, decades went. Marcy got married, raised a second daughter and divorced. But, according to her, she never forgot about her firstborn.
And 28 years later she again met Roger. He never married.
It was then that they decided to find the girl – or rather, an adult girl. They helped the people searching for biological parents of adopted children.
So Roger and Marcy first met her daughter, Jessica, in 2006. They learned that Jessica’s life happened unfortunately. She never graduated high school, struggled with alcohol addiction and had five children from five fathers. The two children she had fostered. Her adoptive parents died.
Roger and Marcy began to fight for her daughter. Jessica was able to get rid of dependence, to rent a house in Indiana and get a job at Amazon.
This year parents have decided to adopt a 39-year-old Jessica. Adult adoption is practiced very rarely, but they are allowed by law in the state of Indiana.
Last week, Marcy and Roger signed all the necessary documents. «It was one of the best moments in my life,» says Roger. «At the age of 72 years, I finally became a real father. Never too late».
