US national parks reduce the number of free days

In 2018, the national parks in the United States will dramatically reduce the number of days during which they will allow visitors free access to natural beauty. In addition, the authorities want to raise the fee for entry in the most popular parks of the USA.

In 2018 parks will open their doors to the public in the Day of Martin Luther king (January 15), the first day of national parks Week (April 21), public lands (22 September) and veterans Day (November 11). For comparison, in 2016, the visitors gave as much as 16 free days, and in 2017 for 10 days.

Currently, the Park Service will charge the weekly entry fees $ 25 or $ 30 per car in 118 of 417 national parks. Now, however, officials talked about increasing the cost of entry to $ 70 in 17 of the most popular parks, located mainly in the West of the country, including Yellowstone national Park, Grand Canyon and Yosemite national Park.

The authorities estimate that the increase in entry fee will lead to additional income in the amount of $ 70 million that can help in solving problems related to maintenance of Park infrastructure. Opponents of the plan, including attorneys General from 10 States, argue that higher ticket prices only repel visitors that will lead to the opposite effect.

The Park service and the interior Ministry has not commented on the reduction in the number of free days in the national parks.
