In the Bronx, three sisters-immigrants became students of Ivy League universities

Screaming classmates surrounded the student of Democracy Prep High school in Harlem, Xavier Rowan, when she learned that she was accepted into Harvard University.

But the most interesting thing is that Xavier is following in the footsteps of their older sisters who also graduated from high school in Harlem, and now the students of two prestigious institutions of the Ivy League.

As reported by NBC New York, two years ago the eldest of the sisters, Chris, was a student at Dartmouth College. After a year, middle sister, Ella, was enrolled in Yale University.

«I was so excited,» says Chris about the younger sister. «I just grabbed her and nearly choked with joy.»

What is even more impressive, three sisters living in the Bronx of immigrant from Cameroon. In his home country, they spoke French and barely knew English when the family moved to the United States. «We started to learn English, went to library, read books, studied dictionaries,» says Xavier.

Sisters Rowan thank their teachers and parents – for what they convinced their education is a priority, even in the most difficult times. «I think that’s what helped us to continue to work and strive for their goals, because to retreat so easily,» says the eldest of the sisters.
