Trump has threatened to cut «billions of dollars» of aid to countries that vote against US in UN

The American President has threatened to stop providing financial assistance to countries that support the draft UN resolution calling for the U.S. to withdraw its decision on recognition of the Holy city as the capital of Israel.

«They take hundreds of millions of dollars or even billions of dollars, and then vote against us. Well, we are watching this vote. Let them oppose us. We will save a lot of money. We still» – said Donald trump.

Tomorrow, 21 December, the UN General Assembly will hold an emergency meeting convened on the initiative of the Arab and Muslim countries. It is planned that the session will vote on a controversial draft resolution that the US vetoed.

US Ambassador to the UN , Nikki Haley , in a letter to several state representatives wrote that trump asked her to «name the countries that voted against us.»

That same message Haley announced in his Twitter account, where she also expressed dissatisfaction regarding the decision of the UN security Council:

«When we make the decision, according to the will of the American people about where to place our Embassy, we do not expect that those who we have helped turn against us.»

At the UN we’re always asked to do more & give more. So, when we make a decision, at the will of the American ppl abt where to locate OUR embassy, we don’t expect those we’ve helped to target us. On Thurs there’ll be a vote criticizing our choice. The US will be taking names. pic.twitter.com/ZsusB8Hqt4

Miroslav Lajcak, the President of the General Assembly, declined to comment on trump’s remark, but said: «It is the right and responsibility of member States to Express their views.»

Riyad al-Maliki, Minister of foreign Affairs of Palestine, on Wednesday accused the US of «intimidation» of member countries of the UN General Assembly before the vote.

«It’s really a new definition of world order in politics and the impression that the American administration… puts its stamp on a new political reality that many countries are rejected,» said Malki.
