The status of persons under temporary protection or Temporary Protected Status for many Salvadorans received after a series of earthquakes in 2001.

Similar status in the USA has 57,000 citizens of Honduras, 46,000 citizens of Haiti, almost 9 thousand Nepalis, 6 thousand of the Syrians, 2,5 thousand inhabitants of Nicaragua, etc. In November, the Haitians announced the termination of TPS status, a bit later the same notice came and Nicaraguans.

As reports a source, Kevin Appleby of the new York Center for the study of migration, termination of TPS status coincides with the current policy pursued by the President’s administration to reduce the number of immigrants and deportation of people without us citizenship.

«The decision was made for this TPS regardless of the facts on the conditions in these countries,» he said. «The decision on El Salvador is especially detrimental,» said he. «He not only destroyed families and children who have lived here for years, but even more destabilizie the already violent country. It’s incredibly short-sighted and undermines our interest in a stable Central America.»
