Tenants in the Upper West Side because of the repair, forced to use the fire escape

Residents of the five-story building in Upper West Side from June 1 are forced to use the fire escape to get to the apartments, as the owners said they plan to repair the main and only staircase in the house.

After the residents met with Council member Helen Rosenthal to Department of Buildings has issued an order on the cessation of work at West 83rd Street.

Many residents are elderly, which is very difficult to climb down the fire escape. Joy, 65, lives on the 4th floor in a Studio apartment and often leaves the house for doctor. Other residents the situation is even worse. They have no access to the fire escape from the apartment.

The owner of the building company Pine Management, owned by brothers Daniel and Jason Rohlman. Now the company is under investigation from state attorney General, Eric Schneiderman, due to the fact that it’s a lot of complaints about harassment of tenants.
