The program for the fight against climate change in new York city includes neighborhood

A new program of the mayor’s office to combat climate change in new York involves friendship or, more precisely, good-neighborliness. Amazing? Not at all — believe the officials. Last week the office of new York mayor bill de Blasio announced a new initiative to fight climate change, increasing the level of heat in the city. The essence of the program can be reduced to: «Plant a tree! Make a new friend!» (exaggerating of course).

The program, worth 106 million dollars under the name of Cool NYC Neighborhoods includes the planting of the trees in the most vulnerable to heat areas such as the South Bronx, Northern Manhattan and Central Brooklyn. Additional finances will be spent and on other related program NYC CoolRoofs, in which the roofs of the houses in town are painted white (around 2.7 million square feet).

But the most unusual part of the program is a pilot project Be A Buddy NYC, which «promotes community cohesion». What will be done by the volunteers of the project is not yet known, but their work will be aimed at helping vulnerable from the standpoint of heat to residents.

«Emergency heat and global warming is not the time to identify vulnerable residents», — explained in the city hall. «On the contrary, it is important to create social networks that can help provide information, life-saving, before the occurrence of such an emergency, and will provide an opportunity to seek help from neighbors during extreme events, heat-related».

The new policy of the municipality deciding factor in the fight against climate change sees increasing activity of the community in this direction. Anyway, friendship is cool! And if she still helps save lives and prevent critical situations – twice!
