After the purchase of 5 electric buses for the Orange Line, Metro announced that they plan to switch completely to electric buses by 2030. At this point in the organization’s 2,200 buses that run on natural gas.
In 2013, Metro purchased more electric buses, but this experiment failed. The buses were the problem. Due to poor quality welding, they began to break down and become unusable.
But since then technology has improved and the Los Angeles Department of Transportation has already started to implement electric buses in the system DASH. DASH routes cover about 150 miles per day, while regular bus route Metro rides about 250 miles a day.
Expect a new type of bus that meets the requirements of Metro will appear on the market in 2020 or 2022, but if this does not happen, the plan of introducing electric buses will be delayed.
