In new York city found mosquitoes-vectors of West Nile fever

For the first time this season in new York city found mosquitoes that carry West Nile, said Monday the Department of health. Insects appeared in Staten Island.

Mosquitoes usually appear in the period from April to September. The Department of health take action: the city already has about 60 points of observation. Workers also sprayed pesticides to kill the mosquitoes that carry West Nile fever. The people of new York should try to avoid bites.

The head of the Department of health, Mary Bassett advised such methods of protection from mosquitoes:

  • to carry insect repellent;
  • try to wear clothing that covers arms and legs, especially at dawn and dusk;
  • remove standing water from places where it may accumulate;
  • to install the Windows grid;
  • check the gutter on the roof, it needs to be dry and not clogged.

West Nile can cause serious health problems, including neurological diseases. Since 2000 the country has recorded 500 cases of infection with West Nile virus. 37 people survived.
