An American student returning from North Korea in a coma, died

Otto Warmbier, who was released from prison in North Korea, has died. According to relatives, he died at 14:20 on Monday.

Otto Warmbier, 22, returned to the U.S. last Tuesday, but reported that he had been in a coma for more than a year. The DPRK stated that the cause of the coma was botulism, but a group of American doctors who examined Otto, dispute this assertion. Mr. Warmbier was sentenced to 15 years hard labor for the attempted theft of a propaganda sign from the hotel.

The student had extensive brain damage and was evacuated June 13, from North Korea for medical reasons in a hospital of his native city, Otto, Cincinnati, Ohio.

Family Warmbier believes that in death the fault of the North Koreans who treated him badly. In a statement the family said: «it is Our sad duty to announce that our son, Otto Warmbier, made her journey home. Surrounded by a loving family, Otto died today at 14:20».

Relatives reported that Warbler «could not talk, see and respond to external stimuli». They also said, «unfortunately, after the brutal treatment suffered by our son in North Korea, such an outcome was inevitable.»

Otto was arrested January 2, 2016. He stayed in prison for 15 months. His family knew about his condition prior to his release.
