Dog therapist helps sick children at the Kravis Children’s Hospital

In Mount Sinai»s Kravis Children’s Hospital has a new doctor and his name is Professor Bunsen Hanidu – 18-month-old Goldendoodle. He is a dog therapist. Thanks to Professor, the morale of the hospital completely changed. Especially for Aiden Schaefer, who again was diagnosed with leukemia, and he’s already lost faith in the future, as said by his parents.

Aiden stopped walking. But that all changed with the advent of the Professor. The boy was able to stand up and take the leash in hand. Since then, his condition has improved.

The doctors hope that the Professor will help the patients to recover. Dogs therapists help reduce stress and anxiety in children during treatment, as well as children begin to communicate with each other as they spend time with the dog.

Wednesday at the Kravis celebrated the beginning of the program canistherapy «Paws and Play», which was made possible thanks to a grant from PetSmart Charities. During the celebration, Professor, received a basket of toys and Goodies.

The dog was so named in honor of the pioneer of the Muppets, Dr. Bunsen Hanidu. The dog appears at the hospital in the morning and spends all day and in the evening it takes the trainer.
