New Tappan Zee Bridge will be renamed in honor of former Governor Mario Cuomo

The Senate of the state of new York, controlled by Republicans, voted to rename the new Tappan Zee Bridge in honor of the late Governor Democrat Mario Cuomo, father of the current Governor of new York Andrew Cuomo.

Mario Cuomo died in 2015, he served as Governor from 1983 to 1994.

The bill was proposed by the majority leader of the Senate, Republican John Flanagan. Now the bridge will be named Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge.

But it is not only renaming. The law also renames the Riverbank state park in Upper West side of Manhattan in honor of the Assemblyman, Democrat Herman Farrell, and part of the highway in orange County in honor of the Senator-Republican William Larkin.
