Thursday, June 23, the 60-year-old Kevin Patrick Mallory, reside in Leesburg, Virginia, was arrested in his own home by FBI agents and arrested on suspicion of espionage and passing classified documents to third parties, presumably the scouts of China.
Mallory, who is fluent in the Chinese dialect of Mandarin, is back in the U.S. after his April trip to Shanghai. In Chicago’s international O’hare airport in his hand Luggage found a large amount of cash – $16,500, which he did not declare.
This circumstance was one of the leads in the case, in which Kevin Mallory appears as a suspect in the transmission of secret documents of the state defense to foreign nationals.
Until 2012, Mallory has worked in several government agencies and commercial organizations providing goods and services to the military and intelligence departments of the us government.
It is known that for some time he was a special agent in the Bureau of diplomatic security of the United States. There is still speculation that the man could be linked to the CIA.
In 2010, Kevin founded a consulting company GlobalEx LLC, which is headed at the moment. He claimed that his company, namely to meet with the staff of the Chinese analytical center, the recruiter who contacted him on social networks, Mallory flew to Shanghai in March and April of this year.
At one of these meetings he was handed a dedicated device for correspondence and transmission of documents, and also taught how to enter safe mode of the device.
Using his connections, in March and April, Kevin turned to the employee of one of the Federal agencies of the United States. Mallory told him my suspicion that the people with whom he met working in the Chinese exploration and spoke about his device.
Initially, Kevin was supposed to be seeing this person once in may, but instead he had to spend time with FBI agentswho questioned him.
The FBI estimates that, of the Shanghai Academy of social Sciences, with the staff which was in contact Mallory used by Chinese intelligence agencies to cover their agents.
According to Kevin, foreign nationals, he gave only two «white paper» (white papers), public messages explaining the policy that was in person.
But on the device, Mallory was discovered four documents, three of which contained sensitive information, and one is considered top secret. From the correspondence, which voluntarily gave himself Kevin, it became clear that in June he had to bring to Shanghai some more documents.
On the day of his arrest Mallory testified under oath before the Federal district court for the Eastern district of Virginia. At the moment the investigation is still underway, but if the fault of Kevin Mallory is proved, he faces a life sentence in prison, and probably death penalty.
