Rabbi, wife charged with benefit fraud for a million

Rabbi with his wife from Lakewood, new Jersey, as well as three more couples arrested during a Federal investigation of fraud in especially large sizes.

Among those arrested were a 39-year-old Rabbi Zalman Sorotzkin, who leads the synagogue Congregation Lutzk and his wife, 35-year-old Zippora.
As stated by Federal prosecutors, the detainees are accused of fraud with social benefits totaling more than $ 1.3 million.

«This operation is the success of cooperation between state officials, state and County for combating fraud with Medicaid and other state benefit programs. We will continue to work to ensure that benefits received by those families who really need them and not stealing from taxpayers,» said state Comptroller James Degnan.

According to prosecutors, Salman and Zippora Sorotzkin from January 2009 to April 2014, hid their real income and illegally received benefits under the program Medicaid, SNAP, housing construction program, and so on.

The accused will appear before court Ocean County today, Monday, in the afternoon.
