Former new York mayor Michael Bloomberg announced a program to Finance innovation and development of cities in the United States cost 200 million dollars.

As reported by the New York Times, the Bloomberg initiative «of the American city» will be funded from his personal fortune.

The program will focus on the introduction of innovations at the municipal level, paying special attention to the problems of climate change, violence with weapons, health and issues of immigration.

The main program will be the competition of the cities «Mayors Challenge». Bloomberg urges mayors to develop a bold and interesting projects, implementation of which cities will receive grants.

In competition can take part any city with a population over 30 thousand people. Applications will be accepted until October 2017.

It is worth noting that in climate change Bloomberg defends the position opposite of Donald Trump. Despite the US withdrawal from the Paris agreement, Michael Bloomberg has personally offered to pay the U.S. share (15 million dollars) to the UN Convention on climate change.
