A group of activists protesting against the too long process of closing the prison on Rikers island, came to new York mayor bill de Blasio, when he was in the gym.

One of the activists of #CLOSErikers, Darren Mack (who spent in Rikers for 20 years), addressed the mayor directly when he did a stretching exercise and stood on all fours. Mac shake de Blasio’s hand and tried to pass the copy of the report judge Jonathan Lippman of recommendations for the speedy closure of the prison.

According to participants #CLOSErikers, plan on shutting down Rikers island, who introduced the mayor, incomplete and did not include the recommendation of Lippmann. Activists believe that 10 years is too long to close the prison.
«Ten-year plan is a very long time. Rikers is a fundamental problem, the problem of injustice, and it would be absolutely wrong to wait that long,» says Jonathan Mack.

The mayor said Mack, «they’ll talk later», after which the security officer de Blasio led the activist from the gym.
De Blasio said that he was not happy about the invasion of his private life. «I go to this gym for three and a half years. And that’s a first,» said the mayor.

We will remind, a week ago, de Blasio urged city Council members to expand the prison in their borough or to find a place for a new, much subsequently transferred prisoners from Rikers.
Council member Stephen Levin has made a proposal to expand the Brooklyn jail, but added that the decision clearly does not find support in his electorate.
