Scott Matheson is a loving husband and father of three children who are 4, 6 and 7 years. The man also leads an active lifestyle and wants to conquer the very highest point in every state.

In early February, 2019 Scott Mattison from Boise (Idaho) developed symptoms of influenza, which he took to his bed. Four days later, the man began to complain of pain in the right leg and went to the emergency room.

«I told Robin (the wife) that I would go to Uber in the er because the kids were already in bed, and she had to stay. I thought I would not live until morning, so it was bad,» said the man.

Medical staff performed a test for flu which came back negative. Then leg Mattison started to become purple. In just a few hours he fell into septic shock.

After nearly a dozen operations in Boise, to stop the spread of necrotizing fasciitis, he was full of life in Utah in a medically induced coma for 17 days.

The diagnosis was a shock to the family of Mattison. The father of three is an avid climber and biker, rose in 32 of the 50 States.

«Overall, I have my whole right leg with the transplanted skin, and my whole left side — the place where they took the skin,» said Scott.

The father of three spent in the intensive care unit 12 weeks before he was transferred to the Utah Hospital Rehabilitation Facility for physical therapy and occupational therapy. In late may, Mattison was finally discharged and returned to his family’s house in Boise.

Necrotizing fasciitis is a rare bacterial infection that rapidly kills the surrounding tissue. The exact cause of infection is unknown, but it can permeate into the body through tiny cuts or scratches on the skin.

According to the Agency of health care, rapid diagnosis and quick treatment are key to stopping the infection. If the medication does not help, will antibiotics or surgery.
