Apparently, the mayor of new York bill de Blasio a big fan of private vehicles.
A sensational campaign, Vision Zero was launched in 2014 with the aim to reduce the number of road accidents in the city, and, it should be noted that it was quite successful. On Wednesday the mayor held a press conference where he gave the example of Queens Boulevard, where two years were no car accident fatalities.
In new York in General, the number of people killed on the roads fell by 20% in the first quarter of 2017 compared to the same period in 2016. Of course, the actual results are much more modest than noted in the early implementation of the initiative (namely, the reduction in the number of deaths caused by automobile accidents to zero), however, it is still a sign of progress.
De Blasio said, to limit the number injured in car accidents and it is better not to drive the car. Metro can be a good alternative to personal transport.
He further noted that, despite the presence in the areas that are not serviced by public transport, the authorities are trying to fill these gaps, the creation of new bus routes, light rail and new ferry.
Many new Yorkers can recall de Blasio about the constant failures in the subway, and terrible delays. However, such criticism, the mayor has a ready answer: transport company operated by MTA new York, not the city Council, therefore improving the service to the subway is included in the responsibilities of Governor Cuomo and the state Legislature.
