The international Olympic Committee (IOC) approved the Los Angeles and Paris, the capitals of the summer Olympic games in 2024 and 2028 years. However, the cities themselves will have to agree among themselves about the order of the Games. Finally the election of the capitals will take place on 13 September at the next IOC session in Lima, Peru.
Initially, LA and Paris has applied to host the Games in 2024. To host the Games in 2024 and 2028 years also claimed Hamburg, Budapest and Rome, but only the French and the Americans were able to confirm their applications now. Therefore, the IOC took the unprecedented decision approving the capitals of Competitions both finalists at the same time.
«We are talking about two great Olympic cities. These two projects differ in nature, but each city submitted a really good proposal,» — said the Chairman of the Evaluation Commission of the IOC 2024 Patrick Baumann.
«We have two excellent candidates from the two major Olympic countries. We couldn’t miss the opportunity to explore the option of cooperation between them,» said IOC President Thomas Bach.
Before that both cities have twice hosted the summer Olympics: the most prestigious sporting events in the world in the French capital took place in 1900 and 1920, and in the City of Angels, the Games were held in 1932 and 1984.
