The head of the MTA Joe Lhota on a press-conferences on Tuesday has told about solution of the problems of Metropolitan new York. The strategy includes 30 itemsthat need to correct a broad range of gaps that regularly cause delays of trains. One of the most unusual ideas is the pilot program for the removal of seats from cars on two subway lines.
The program will affect trains line L and the Manhattan Shuttle. Lhota says it will help to increase capacity and reduce overcrowding. The cars in question will be painted a different color, in addition to this, they will strike a special designation that will allow passengers to determine that there can be standing room only. The initiative inspired a similar program MBTA in Boston, where go for a long time «standing» cars.
The MTA has not indicated the time when this spacious cars will begin to surf the underground tunnels, however, Lhota said that all the points included in the overall plan must be implemented during the year.
