The sidewalk on Seventh Avenue will be expanded, and 2 Broadway district will cover the transport

City officials plan to widen congested pedestrian sidewalks between Penn Station and Times Square, and in summer shut off to traffic a few busy blocks in the Broadway area.

The Department of transportation plans to install a 10-foot sidewalks and special Islands along the sidewalk on the West side of Seventh Avenuebetween West 34th and 42nd streets by the spring of 2018, reported the press service.

In addition, the Agency plans to close to vehicular traffic, the blocks of Broadway between West 40th and 39th streets, and between West 37th and 36th streets for two and a half months this summer from 9 June to 31 August.

The extension of the sidewalk and the creation of Islands between West 34th and 42nd streets is a strip, which is currently designed for buses and Parking, of the presentation of the DOT.

The reason for the interest of the above road sections to ensure greater comfort for pedestrians, due to the fact that here is recorded one of the highest numbers of pedestrian injuries in the city: 138 cases in the period from 2010 to 2014.
