There are many reasons to stroll around the Meatpacking district near the Standard Hotel: you can enjoy a wonderful evening, spending time in one of the wonderful, but not crowded rooftop bars or to be conscious citizen, to whom a public duty orders to actively participate in the life of the state.

In fact, this idea is behind the initiative #RingYourRep from the Standard Hotel. In the framework of this project on the square near the hotel on 13th Street on Thursday there was a bright red telephone booth from which to call directly at the switching node of the buildings of the Capitol in Washington. The purpose of this step is facilitating communication between ordinary citizens and congressmen. And if you’ve never called Congress, the hotel will give you easy to use instructions, following the advice which you will hear someone on the other end.

The boutique is not the first time attempts to fit into the political sphere. In March, the company released the plan of action of 10 parts with recommendations on how to support the movement Black Lives Matter or download Indivisible Guide.

On the question of whether the hotel some benefit from political activity, a hotel representative said that #RingYourRep not meant to dictate to people of certain political views. According to him, the initiative aims to let people know that their voices can really be heard in important matters, be it health, environmental protection, immigration, the rights of the LGBT community or education.

Currently, it is unknown how long the phone booth will remain in its place.
