You haven’t rush to the store to buy a lottery ticket? In vain, because jackpots in two U.S. lotteries grew to fantastic proportions.
Today the jackpot of Mega Millions is $393 million, and is the fifth-largest amount in the history of the game (and 17th among all lotteries in the US!).
Only a little behind Powerball, jackpot which is now $356 million. 34 of the drawing did not reveal the winner.
As CNN reports, the chances of winning, of course, extremely low, but they are. So there’s one chance out of 292 million that you will win the Powerball jackpot and one chance out of 258 million for the Mega Millions jackpot. And if you want to win both… then there turns out some astronomical number, one chance in 76 quadrillion.
According to the North American Association of lotteries, last year Americans spent slightly more than 80 billion dollars on lottery tickets. This was more than residents spending on video games, books, concert tickets and sports matches together!
Of course, we should not forget that the winner may not be one, and jackpot will have to share. In addition, if you choose a one-time payment (as the majority of winners), the prize will be 246 million in the Mega Millions and the $ 224 million in Powerball.
Tickets for both lotteries are sold in every state, except Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada and Utah.
