On Sunday, the Illinois state Senate adopted a resolutionthat allows police to classify a group of neo-Nazis as a terrorist organization, reports the Chicago Tribune.

The resolution calls on law enforcement agencies «to recognize the nationalist and neo-Nazi groups as terrorist organizations and prosecute domestic terrorist organization in the same way and with the same zeal with which you defended US from other manifestations of terrorism.» That is, offers to treat nationalists and neo-Nazis as well as the members of ISIS, for example.

This measure was a response to Saturday’s riots during the March of the white radicals in Charlottesville, during which one person died and several were injured.

«It is very important that we are opposed to hatred, bigotry and violence of white nationalist and neo-Nazi groups,» says Senator don Harmon, who was the initiator of this idea.

«They are the heirs of the Ku Klux Klan and the Nazis. In two bloody wars we fought against this ideology. And we must continue to deal with the same perverted worldview today,» he added.
