In the South Street Seaport will be a magical canopy

In the South Street Seaport continues construction of Pier 17, and once the project is completed next year, there will be amazing delicate «tent». According to The Architects Newspaper, the German architect Achim Menges developed a plan for a futuristic canopy, the inspiration for which were insect wings.

At first, the visualizations depicted the open lawn, the roof where you can relax visitors to Pier 17. New renderings have already shown an openwork canopy, which suggests a more active use of space. Under such unusual roof, people can not only enjoy the walk, but also to attend concerts and other activities. The space is designed to accommodate up to 4,000 people to show films under the open sky, hold the tennis matches, art installations, etc.

The canopy was supposed to be easy, as it will be at the top of the building, but it is sufficiently strong and stableto withstand the storm wind gusts.

Material for an unusual object will serve as a glass / carbon fiber, special robots. The structure of the canopy will be built lights for illumination, which will give him more ease and make it a landmark on the waterfront.

Last year Menges has created something similar to the Victoria and albert Museum in London.
