Former world chess champion, Garry Kasparov, came back after retirement for a one-time participation in the chess tournament in St. Louis, Missouri. The format of the competition requires players to make moves much faster than in a normal game.
Today Kasparov played another famous Russian grandmaster Sergey Karjakin. The game ended in a draw on the 44th move. Kasparov played a «white» Karjakin «black».
Kasparov said that all income received from participation in the tournament will go to charity. During the fourth stage of Gran-round rapid chess Rapid and Blitz Kasparov will battle with nine of the best chess players in the world. Thus, in the second round, the grandmaster will play against American chess player Hikaru Nakamura, playing «chess legend» to be «white».
54-year-old grandmaster Garry Kasparov, a native of Azerbaijan, for 12 years did not participate in chess tournaments, to devote himself to politics and becoming one of the opponents of the incumbent President of Russia Vladimir Putin. He is the leader of the opposition group «Another Russia».
Nevertheless, not politics did Kasparov celebrity. His name will be remembered in the Golden history of the game of chess. In 1985, he became the youngest world chess champion, who managed to save this high title for 15 years. However, in 1997, Kasparov lost to the supercomputer, IBM’s Deep Blue.
In 2013, the grandmaster left Russia and settled in new York.
