New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is working on a plan which provides for the imposition of additional fees paid by motorists trying to drive in the most congested part of Manhattan. Such a measure would help to deal with regular traffic jams in the center. This practice has long been recognized worldwide and helps to reduce traffic flow in areas with particularly dense traffic, and to attract billions of dollars to the Treasury. Cuomo has not yet announced any details worked plan, but experts note that whatever the conditions of its implementation, it will face significant opposition. It is known that former mayor of new York Michael Bloomberg a few years ago also wanted to introduce a fee for entrance to the center of the city, but his plan quickly «fell apart» when faced with stiff opposition in Albany.
In turn, Cuomo, in an interview with The New York Times has stated that it intends to consider the mistakes of his predecessors and to develop a plan that would be convenient and acceptable to all. «The time has come,» said the Governor on the proposed measure.
