President Donald trump has condemned the dismantling of monuments to confederates, calling the campaign for the demolition of the monuments «sad» and «stupid».
This subject he devoted a few posts on Twitter.
«Sad to see the history and culture of our great country torn apart, destroying our beautiful statues and monuments,» writes trump. «You can’t change history but can learn from it.»

«Robert Lee, Stonewall Jackson… Who’s next? Washington, Jefferson? How stupid!», continues the President. «Moreover, it is the beauty that goes with the monuments of our cities, parks will be lost and it will be impossible to fill to the full».

The reference to Washington and Jefferson immediately provoked a storm of criticism in the direction of trump. The President showered reproaches in lack of competence in the field of history. Since publication of The Washington Post explains why it is impossible to put General Lee on a par with Washington and Jefferson:

«George Washington risked his life to create the United States. Robert Lee, however, commanded the army, trying to divide the country, built by Washington,» writes the author.

«As for Jefferson, although he did not meet their own ideals, he nevertheless gave the United States the slogan: «all men were created equal». Robert E. Lee served the government with a very different position in this matter.»

Such reaction of the President came after, like local officials across the country intensified its efforts in the dismantling of monuments and statues from public places. So, African-American congressmen took the initiative to remove the Confederate statue from the Capitol.

The movement was supported by the official authorities of Lexington, Kentucky, Baltimore, new York and Virginia proposing to demolish the monument and memorial plaque perpetuating the memory of heroes of the Confederation.
The struggle with the monuments of the Confederacy began after the riots in Charlottesville, during which one person died and dozens were injured.

We will remind that on Tuesday, the President said that this wave of violence is to blame is both sideswho acted too radically. It is noteworthy that the events in Charlottesville have started because of protests against the dismantling of the monument to General Robert E. Lee.
