De Blasio will clear new York from «symbols of hatred»

Mayor bill de Blasio said Wednesday that the city will reconsider the objects of art, monuments, and «all the symbols of hatred», associated with the Confederation.

And the first will be erased the name of Philippe pétain with tape Canyon of Heroes, which stretches for 13 blocks along Broadway, promised De Blasio. A granite plaque with the name of Petain, French General, was established in the memory of the parade, which was held on Broadway in 1931 when he was awarded this honor for the defense of France during the First world war. But, years later, he became an accomplice of the Nazis during the Second world war.

The mayor’s statement was followed by Governor Andrew Cuomo when he announced that the monuments of Lee and Jackson Stonewall will be taken from the Hall of fame of great Americans at the Bronx community College.
Cuomo and mayor de Blasio also asked to change the names of streets associated with the Confederation, at the military base Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn.

A plaque in honor of General Lee was already removed from the walls Episcopal Church, which is located near a military base.

«In our state we unreservedly condemn the language of white supremacy«- said Cuomo’s Ryan McCarthy, the acting press Secretary of the United States army.

«The renaming of these streets will give a clear signal that in new York we oppose any signs of intolerance and racism, whether hidden or obvious.»

«This is the beginning of what ideally will become a long-term approach to the revaluation of urban developments and controversial works of art», — said the NewYork Post , the representative of mayor’s office Eric Phillips.
