A monument to General Lee in Charlottesville hid under a black tarpaulin

On Tuesday evening, the city Council of Charlottesville voted to be monuments to General Lee and Thomas «Stonewall» Jackson canvas capes. No sooner said than done: on Wednesday workers began to fulfill his plans.

In the video you can see workers using cranes and ropes cover the monument to the Confederate General Robert E. Lee Emancipation Park in a black oilskin cover.
The same fate befell the statue of General Thomas Jackson.
The actions of city workers were accompanied by the approving cheers of the observing.

As reported by the NewYork Post, the city authorities decided to conceal the monuments, so as to honor the memory of Heather Heyer, who was killed on August 12. Then, during the riots and clashes between supporters of the anti-fascist and anti-racist movements and neo-Nazis in the crowd drove the car under the wheels of which and killed 32-year-old Heather, and dozens more were injured.

State law, enacted in 1998, prohibits local authorities to dismantle, damage or destroy the military monuments. However, there is a legal uncertainty whether this refers to statues such as the monument to General Lee, who was installed prior to the adoption of the law.
