The opening of the Panama canal was a significant event in 1915. It is not surprising that the completed structure was dedicated, international , Panama-California exhibition, for which, in turn, was built the Museum of man.

The Museum is part of the so-called California square (eng. California Quadrangle), consisting of richly decorated buildings and beautiful tower with a height of 200 feet with an electronic Carillon (a musical instrument, by means of the clock mechanism making a number of bells to enforce any tune) and clock. The tower will almost certainly hear the fans of the movie «Citizen Kane» Orson Welles, where she flashed as part of the estate of Xanadu. In 1935, the tower was closed to the public, but 80 years later it re-opened after restoration.

In the Museum are regularly held various temporary exhibitionson the topics covers everything from 10,000 years of brewing history to cannibalism and the related phenomenon of myths. However, the real highlight of the Museum is an impressive collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts, the largest in the United States.

This remarkable exhibition includes children’s sarcophagus from the Ptolemaic era, one of 6 surviving to the present day, and a few real mummies, including the mummy of Lemon grove – the remains of a woman. The mummies discovered in a suburban garage, where they brought teenagers, who found them in a cave in Mexico.

Museum of man is the only anthropological Museum in San Diego. It is located in Balboa Park at 1350 El Prado. The Museum is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00. Tickets: from $13 to $25. More details on the official website of the Museum.
