Netherlands — not Holland. What was the difference?

Is it Netherlands or Holland? Too long to think about the answer now don’t have: the country has officially withdrawn from the second name.

According to the authorities, the main goal of this decision — redesign of the international reputation of the state in which immigrants of today often attracts famous Amsterdam.

Technically, Holland is the name of two provinces — North and South Holland. Until now, many brands, travel sites and agencies deliberately concentrated on the cities located in these provinces and in particular Amsterdam, Rotterdam and the Hague. Officials hope that the formal name change will help attract the attention of tourists to 10 other provinces and their attractions.

According to Matador Network, the company is rebranding cost the state $319 thousand.

«To control the flow of visitors and to open new opportunities offered by tourism, we must act immediately,» said tourism Council in an official statement.

Under the new rules, all companies, universities, embassies and other government agencies will now be required to name the country except the Netherlands.
