Agricultural experts from the U.S. Customs and border protection (CBP) seized a package with small dead birds from the Luggage of a passenger at DULLES international airport in Washington (D. C) — Washington Dulles International Airport.

The traveler arrived on a flight from Beijing and was headed to the County of Prince George (Maryland). During baggage inspection specialists CBP agriculture found the packaging with pictures of cats and dogs, which, according to the passenger, was cat food. In the package was an unknown dead bird with a length from 2.5 to 3.5 inches.

Birds from China forbidden to import due to the potential threat of highly pathogenic avian influenza. The packaging was confiscated by the Ministry of agriculture of USA (USDA) and burned.

«Raw poultry represent a serious threat to the poultry industry of our country and, more disturbingly, for our citizens as potential carriers of avian influenza, said Casey durst, Director of CBP field operations in Baltimore. Professionals in the field of customs and border control continue daily to exercise extreme vigilance».

Service of protection of fish and wildlife, US (Russia), the inspection of health of animals and plants of the Ministry of agriculture of the USA (USDA-APHIS) and the Centers for control and prevention (CDC) regulates the importation of animals and animal products into the United States. Consignees and importers must ensure that they comply with licensing, certification and imports.
