In the California desert may receive the biggest artificial wave in the world

The California desert is usually (and logically) is not associated with surfing, but maybe soon things will change.

The professional surfing legend Kelly Slater plans to open the world’s largest artificial wave in the Coachella valley (Coachella Valley), famous for over the past decade, the eponymous music festival. Wave will use the technology Kelly Slater Wave Co. One of them with artificial waves already exists on the ranch Kelly Slater Surf in Lemoore — a three-hour drive North from Los Angeles.

The idea of Slater will be part of 400-acre resort coral mountain (Coral Mountain).

To realize this dream, the 11-time world champion has teamed up with a private firm for investment and development of real estate Meriwether Companies and Big Sky Wave Developments.

Team Coral Mountain said that relies on attracting a new generation of tourists. In recent years, the California desert cities are increasingly attracted to energetic tourists from Los Angeles and San Diego, who come not only to the festival of music and arts Coachella Valley, but also at smaller events.

According to the Associated Press, the at Coral Mountain cost $200 million, under permits, will include a hotel with 150 rooms and up to 600 houses.

The Central element of the complex of active rest will be a wave pool, which will contain about 18 million gallons of water. The waves will be able to ride about 25 surfers at the same time. Coral mountain can begin by 2021.
