The national Park service announced that for the first time in 11 years on mount Rushmore will celebrate July 4 with fireworks. On the mount Rushmore of the celebrations was not more than ten years for fear of fire.
This year the event will take place only in the case that will allow social and weather conditions.
The Governor of South Dakota Kristi noem, a Republican, said that despite concerns related to fireworks that have the potential to set fire to forests near the monument, the strong growth of forests and increase safety in the pyrotechnics gave her the confidence that the national Park will be able to hold the event safely.
«We are pleased that this will happen at mount Rushmore. We worked on this for quite some time,» said Noah.
In January, Donald trump said that he would try to attend if it is held.
«President trump and I believe that the Foundation of our nation should be celebrated with the same pomp and parade which John Adams described in 1776, and holding fireworks at mount Rushmore will once again be an incredible spectacle for the American people, — said the Minister of the interior David Bernhardt. I can’t imagine a better way to celebrate the birthday of America.»
Today in South Dakota was 2245 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 11 deaths. The state is among the 10 with the lowest number of cases in the country.
Mount Rushmore, which attracts over two million visitors annually, is still open to the public from 5 to 23 hours every day, but the information centre is closed and all educational and excursion programs will be suspended indefinitely.
The famous mountain is decorated with the faces of presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln.
