An amazing mansion in the style of the Spanish Renaissance was named in honor of William K. Vanderbilt. It is located in a quiet area on Little Neck Road in Suffolk County and is one of the few surviving estates on the legendary North shore of long island. The mansion, listed on the national register of historic places, is a real time machine, which helps to look, as they lived the most privileged sectors of society along the Gold coast, where once lived the richest and most influential people in the United States. Besides the mansion, there are also planetarium, the Maritime Museum and the natural history Museum, a hangar for the seaplane and luxury gardens. In addition to the official name, the estate also has a nickname – the eagle’s nest.

The estate impresses its guests starting from the main gate. Driveway is covered with pebbles over it proudly rises the bell tower, letting in guests in the Central courtyard. Spanish architectural style of the mansion is reflected in the abundance of forged items, red tile roof and spacious space in front of the house. Initially, in 1910, the mansion was built as a bachelor pad for William Vanderbilt II. The project involved architects Warren and S. Wetmore, who once built a building to Grand Central Terminal in new York. Whitney Warren was also a relative of the Vanderbilts.

Family and guest rooms filled with antique furniture, paintings and objects of luxury, displaying rather eclectic taste of Mr. Vanderbilt. In the summer months the Museum offers so-called «live tours»in which the Museum staff are satisfied with the costume show, to show and tell about the life of a family of Vanderbilts. During the year the Museum also conducts educational tours for students on a variety of subjects, from wildlife to the privacy of the family Vanderbilt.

After visiting the estate you can spend a few lovely hours wandering around the gardens with fountainsthat create a truly fabulous atmosphere. During this walk really seems to like landing in the pages of some old novel where there is intrigue, adventure, treasure and, of course, a happy ending.

Currently, the Museum and planetarium Vanderbilt Suffolk County is a popular historical, cultural and scientific attractions, which often attracts visitors from all over the state. Recently renovated, modern planetarium with an improved projection system Konica Minolta and surround sound offers to go on an amazing adventure to the outer regions of the Solar system.

The estate can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday from 11 am to 5 PM (Tues-sat) and from 12 PM to 5 PM (sun). Tickets: $7 adult; $3 children (under 12 years); $6 students or seniors. Planetarium: $6 per person. Excursions (weekend): + $6 per person to the ticket price; «live tour» — + $8 per person to the ticket price.
