The charm of new York: urban interiors (part 1)

Recently, we devote a lot of time unusually beautiful and majestic buildings that can be seen in the state of new York, basing their choice largely on the features of the exterior. But sometimes it happens that the buildings are very similar to humans: unremarkable from the outside, but with incredibly rich, beautiful inner world. In two parts of our guide we look at the most beautiful urban interiors that are literally breathtaking, from Lower Manhattan, and moving through the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn and Staten island.

1/ The Cunard Building

25 Broadway

And our first stop will be the former headquarters of the Cunard, located at 25 Broadway. Its vast main hall decorated with complex elements in marine and Maritime topics. The first floor, where before you could buy tickets on the Cunard ships, so great that in 1995, it was officially recognized as a city landmark.

2/ Building 1 on the wall Street

The jewel in the Art Deco style that adorns the wall Street was designed by Ralph Walker and built in 1931. She is well known for its exquisite interiors, including the Red room and the observation deck on the 49th floor. The red room has remained untouched to the present day. It is decorated with mosaic authorship of the famous artist Hildreth Meier, who also worked in the Church of St. Bartholomew and Radio City Music Hall.

3/ The Beekman

123 Nassau St

What was once a creepy, abandoned building Temple Court is now Beekman is a luxury establishment opened last year. The building, built in 1884, is most known for its nine-story atrium topped by a magnificent skylight. Wrought-iron railing and beautiful flooring has been restored in the reconstruction of the building when turning into the hotel. Now everyone can go back to the streets to enjoy the beautiful work.

4/ metro Station, Old City Hall

The now defunct metro station is one of the most amazing places in the city. Here you can see the Guastavino tiles, beautiful chandeliers and other decorative elements that helped the station earn the nickname «the crown jewel» when it opened in 1904. However, not to get there not so easy to get. To see the splendor of the old station you will need to become a member of the Transport Museum in new York, and then to attend one of the scheduled guided tours.

5/ Museum and Morgan library

225 Madison Ave

Three absolutely not similar to each other buildings combined in a unique complex in the heart of the city. The most beautiful interiors you can find in the majestic McKim building in the southern part of the complex. There you will find the exquisite Morgan library, fascinating abundance of details, the magnificent marble rotunda, office room with red panels and other luxurious rooms.

6/ the Public library of new York

476 5th Ave

In the famous library on Fifth Avenue a lot of beautiful places, but the most spectacular is the Rose reading room. After years of repairs, stucco, sky paintings and ornate chandeliers look better than ever.

7/ meeting rooms Edgar Kaufmann

809 United Nations Plaza

The big mistake is to pass by the Convention center and J. Edgar. Kaufman, designed by Finnish architects Alvaro and Eliseu Aalto. The high ceilings of the room and the majestic elements of birch, beautiful in its simplicity. Unfortunately, the interior is not yet a landmark, however, things can change.

8/ Radio City Music Hall

1260 Avenue of the Americas

One of the most remarkable architectural objects in the art Deco style in new York is Radio City Music Hall, where lies many great interior. The spacious lobby is decorated with murals of Ezra winter can be called only the tip of the iceberg. Everything from the auditorium, with its simple yet amazing design, to the luxurious bathrooms, such as magnificent as in the 1930-ies, when the school first opened, it staggers the imagination.
