Squall and hail in the American zoo: killed 2 occupant, injured 14 people

Monday, August 6, Colorado springs covered the storm, hit the city, hail the size of a Golf ball. Icicles smashed glass in cars and buildings, and visitors to the zoo Cheyenne Mountain had to be rescued from falling on them fragments of the glass ceiling.

According to the fire Department of Colorado springs, due to a short but powerful storm injured 14 people, five of them required hospitalization.

«It was not what we expected from the second day of the holiday,» — commented on the incident, Tyler Hobson, who came to Cheyenne Mountain together with the family of Austin (TX).

One of the visitors caught the Grizzlies are trying to shelter in the aviary.

After the storm, the zoo visitors were evacuated on buses to a nearby Cheyenne Mountain High School.

Marketing Director, Cheyenne Mountain Jenny Koch reported that, unfortunately, their menagerie has suffered the loss of hail beat to death a 4-year-old duck Daisy and a 13-year-old vulture Motswari. Another vulture was injured and was sent to a veterinary clinic.

The storm left almost 2 million people without electricity. Highway 24 West of Manitou springs was closed.

Residents of the area near the mountain pikes Peak in say accustomed to bad weather, but this ferocious storm surprised even them.

Today, August 7, Cheyenne Mountain zoo is still closed. Employees assess the damage and clean premises. When the zoo will reopen is not yet known.
