A snow storm claimed the lives of 9 people in the Midwest, in Virginia declared a state of emergency

At least 9 people, including police, died in accidents during a powerful snow stormthat struck the Midwest over the weekend.

In some areas, the storm began in the night from Friday to Saturday, January 12. Because of the strong wind gusts thousands of consumers were left without electricity, airports canceled dozens of flights. Wet snow on the roads caused hundreds of traffic accidents.

The main blow of winter weather fell on Missouri: there on the weekend because of the snow there have been more than 800 accidents. According to preliminary information, 57 people were injured and 4 were killed.

Saturday in the suburbs of Chicago patrol Christopher Lambert stood by his car near the scene of an accident when he was hit by another car. At the hospital the man died.

«The patrol Lambert specifically put your vehicle to protect victims from a previous accident, and thus «caused the fire». He will be remembered for the dedication of police of Illinois and serving its residents,» — said the head of the state police Leo Schmitz.
