Extreme cold in the Midwest will bring Arctic air masses that move from the Arctic circle. The cold snap is worth waiting for on Monday, January 28, but the most severe weather testing of residents expected on Tuesday and Wednesday, 29-30 January.
Less fortunate residents of North Dakota, Minnesota, South Dakota and Northern Illinois. According to AccuWeather meteorologists, frosts that will come to these States, can cause frostbite in just a few minutes.
On Tuesday evening, 29 January, in most parts of North Dakota, Eastern South Dakota and Minnesota the temperature can drop to -30°F (-34°C)!
In Chicago for the first time since 1980-ies, the temperature can fall to -25°F (-31°C). On Wednesday afternoon the temperature will increase slightly. In Fargo (North Dakota), Minneapolis (mn) Chicago (Il) is projected to -10°F (-23°C). Almost the same will be in Kansas city and St. Louis (mo), Cincinnati (Ohio) and Pittsburgh (PA).
Wednesday night could be just as cold if not colder than Tuesday night in many areas.
«This extreme cold. A whole generation of Chicagoans, for example, such just do not know, — said meteorologist Mike $ . — These numbers are 20-40 degrees below normal».
People living in remote areas must make sure they have enough gas or wood, to hold during the outbreak of extreme cold. Motorists are encouraged to travel with a winter survival kit in case of a car breakdown.
