Governor Cuomo urges new Yorkers to prepare for strong winds and possible power outages

The Governor of the state of new York Andrew Cuomo urges residents to prepare for the new portions of the storm, namely the extremely powerful winds and possible power outages.

Gusts of wind can reach 70-75 mph (112-120 kph) in Western new York and Western areas of the Northern region; and a bit smaller — 40-50 mph (64-80 km per hour) throughout the state.

In anticipation of bad weather Cuomo instructed several agencies to pre-deploy equipment of first-responders across the state and to make every effort to the utility company was also ready for a quick response.

«Staff is closely monitoring the situation and stands ready to assist the local population as quickly as possible,» said Cuomo.

The Governor banned travel for empty tractor trailers and tandem on such routes (starting at 10 a.m. on 24 February):

  • I-90 between exit 31 (Utica) and exit 61
  • Niagara Thruway (I-190)
  • I-390 from Dansville to Rt 104
  • I-490 with I-90 exit AR4 I-90 exit 47
  • I-590
  • Rt 104 at Bay Bridge
  • I-190 Grand Island to Lewiston/Queenston
  • I-290 to I-190 to I-90
  • NY 5 to I-190 to NY 179
  • US 219 from I-90 to Peters Rd
  • NY 400 from NY 16 to I-90
  • I-990 to I-290 to NY 26

Threat system is coming to new York today, February 23, and will bring some snow and rain.
