«It was so scary»: the Blind father rendered paralyzed adult son from the burning homes, fleeing from hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas

Brent Lowe knew it was time to escape, when a gust of wind which brought hurricane Dorian tore off the roof of his house in the Bahamas. But Brent has two problems: he is blind, and his 24-year-old son could not walk because of cerebral palsy.

So the father put the boy on his shoulders and bravely stepped from the porch of the house that tormented element, in the raging flood waters.

«It was scary. So scary,» said Mr. Lowe correspondent the New York Times.

When Dorian ripped off his house roof, Lowe s son and a few neighbors whose homes are already destroyed the elements, took refuge in the bathroom, cement house and prayed for salvation. After the roof began to rattle off, and then flopped to the ground, they realized that it is time to seek a new refuge. Clinging to each other frightened neighbors went further along the street.

After 5 minutes of searching a safe haven that seemed to last forever, Brent and his son found refuge with one of the neighbors.

They stayed in the house until the evening, until rescuers arrived. Mr. Lowe was taken to Nassau because he needed dialysis, and the son remained with relatives in Abaco.

Brent and his son was saved from the devastating blows of hurricane Dorian, but lost almost everything. Lowe is worried about the eldest daughter, not knowing whether he survived, whether it is in hurricane. House men destroyed and now, like many neighbors, she and her son homeless.

However, Brent Lowe wants to return to Abaco. He spent there all his life, working as a butcher, raised children, lost his sight due to diabetes. All that he had built, gone in the blink of an eye — but Brent does not consider it a reason to leave.

According to official data, victims of hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas were already 30 people; hundreds have gone missing and the number of victims, according to the authorities, will grow. Entire neighborhoods in ruins, 95% of the homes on the Islands of Abaco destroyed.

Currently Dorian has weakened to category 1 hurricane. He is raging in the Atlantic ocean approximately 15 miles South of Cape lookout, North Carolina.
