The worst hurricanes in American history

Texas and the Gulf coast continue to feel the effects of hurricane Harvey, which brought severe flooding.

Weather Channel compiled a list of the 10 most worst hurricanes (and flooding caused by them) in U.S. history, including those who have not yet given names.

Hurricane in Galveston, September 1900

Hurricane 4-category struck Galveston, Texas. The exact number of victims was never established, according to various estimates, it amounted to from 8 to 12 thousand people.

Hurricane in Miami, September 1926

The storm struck Miami, when the residents of South Florida still was not as prepared for disaster as it is now. According to the red cross, the hurricane has killed 372 people, another 150 people drowned when the water broke the dam Moore Haven in several places.

Andrew had a short but violent storm that struck southern Florida with the force of a hurricane of the 5th category. Then a hurricane dropped to 3rd category and made it to Louisiana. Killed 65 people, damaged and destroyed 127 million homes, the damage amounted to 26 billion dollars.

The main force of the storm fell on Florida and South Carolina. 10 people were killed, and material losses from damage are estimated at $ 15 billion.

Storm sandy, October 2012
