Explosions in the Somali capital: 189 dead

According to the Associated Press, the death toll from bombings in the Somali capital Mogadishu has reached 189and more than 200 people injured.

This is one of the most deadly attacks in the country since 2007. President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed announced in connection with the incident three days of national mourning.

According to police, the bomb exploded outside the hotel on the intersection of K5, where are the offices of public institutions, restaurants and shops. The result was destroyed several buildings and burned dozens of cars. Two hours later, in Medina there was a second explosion.

While no one has claimed responsibility for the attacks, but authorities suspect the group al-Shabab, linked to al-Qaeda.

After the attack, the U.S. Mission in Somalia made an official statement.

“The United States strongly condemn the terrorist attack on October 14, which killed and injured innocent Somalis in Mogadishu. We offer our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and wish a speedy recovery to the wounded. USA admire the heroism of the Somali security services, the first responders and citizens who rushed to help the victims.”
