Russia has used footage from a computer game as evidence of US aid to ISIS

Russia has said it is «irrefutable evidence» of cooperation between the United States and the Islamic state, posted footage in which was depicted the militants traveling from the city of Abu-Kemal towards the border of Syria and Iraq.

In the post, the defense Ministry, which was published in Facebook and Twitter, specify a specific shooting date – November 9 – the day when the Syrian army and its allies are «completely liberated» the border town of Abu Kamal, which was considered the last stronghold of the Islamic state.

But Russian users quickly noticed the catch, and had caught the Agency in the deception, after which the publication was removed from social networks. As it turned out, the alleged «irrefutable evidence» of when the US and ISIS were the screenshots of the game for smartphones Gunship AC-130, which was taken from a video on YouTube two years ago.

A group of activists CIT, which deals with investigations of military conflicts, noticed another fake. They identified other published Agency frame as a screenshot from the video of the Ministry of defence of Iraq, shot in 2016.

Russia, which has supported President Bashar al-Assad during the war in Syria, has often criticized the US military operations. Russian officials have repeatedly stated that American soldiers are at best ineffective in the fight against the Islamic state or, at worst, in collusion with groups.
