Protests in Gaza in anticipation of the opening of the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem: 28 killed, 500 wounded

May 14 – this date is for the opening ceremony of the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem, chosen for a reason, because on this day exactly 70 years ago, was signed the Declaration of independence of the state of Israel.

But today’s event was marred by mass protests on the border between Gaza and Jerusalem, which killed at least 28 Palestinians, including 14-year-old, said the representative of the Ministry of health of the Palestinian authority. More than 500 people were injured by the Israeli army.

«The Israeli army has killed at least 16 people and wounded hundreds of people during protests near the fence in Gaza.»

Press Secretary of the Israeli army, Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Conicus said they had strengthened its forces along the border with Gaza, but also provided added security measures in the neighboring communities around them to protect Israeli citizens in the event of mass protests. According to Conicus, there have been several «significant attempts» on the part of protesters to break through the fence.

Moving the Embassy from tel Aviv, a key campaign promise of President trump, infuriated Palestinians, who consider East Jerusalem to be their territory.

Himself Donald trump had previously announced that it will not be able to attend the event, but sent to Jerusalem, the high-level delegation, which includes his daughter, Ivanka trump and her husband Jared Kushner, who are also advisers to the President of the United States.
